If you’re dissatisfied with the current appearance of your breasts, cosmetic surgery may be right for you. Factors such as weight loss, aging, hormone imbalance, and childbirth can have a significant impact on the shape and size of your breasts. For men, enlarged breasts can lead to embarrassment and low self-esteem. No matter your reason, breast surgery can provide the aesthetic changes you seek, giving your breasts a better-proportioned appearance and providing a boost to your self-esteem. Dr. Jejurikar is a leading Dallas-based expert on breast surgery. He offers his best advice on everything you need to know about breast surgery, so you can determine whether it’s the best course of action for you.

What Type of Breast Surgery Does Dr. Jejurikar Offer?

Dr. Jejurikar offers a range of surgeries to improve the appearance of breasts for both men and women. These include:

  • breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty)
  • breast lift (mastopexy)
  • breast revision
  • male breast reduction for gynecomastia
  • saline implants
  • silicone implants

Dr. Jejurikar specializes in each of the above surgeries and has helped thousands of patients improve their physical appearance and self-esteem. Let’s take a look at each of these surgeries in depth.

Breast Augmentation (Breast Implants)

If you’re looking for a surgery to give your breasts a better-proportioned appearance, breast augmentation will help you achieve that goal. Typically, breast augmentation is performed with either saline breast implants or silicone breast implants.

Are you a good candidate for breast augmentation?

You may be a good candidate for breast augmentation if:

  • your breasts have become flatter after childbirth.
  • your breasts are different sizes.
  • your breasts sag due to a significant loss in weight.
  • you feel self-conscious about the size or shape of your breasts.

The Procedure and Recovery

Expect the surgery to last around two hours. During the procedure, incisions will be made to insert either saline or silicone implants to improve the look and feel of your breasts. Under the expert care of Dr. Jejurikar, you can expect the incision marks to be as inconspicuous as possible. You should be able to return to work within a week after surgery.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Interested in raising your breasts so that they sit higher on your chest, restoring a more youthful appearance? A breast lift is precisely what you need.

Are you a good candidate for a breast lift?

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if:

  • you don’t smoke.
  • you maintain a stable weight.
  • you’re generally healthy.
  • you have breasts that have lost their general shape or volume.
  • you have breasts that sag or are elongated or pendulous.
  • you have breasts and/or areola that are stretched or pointed downward.

The Procedure and Recovery

You can expect the breast lift procedure to last anywhere from one to two hours. Once again, incisions are necessary, although they are inconspicuous when made by a highly experienced cosmetic surgeon. Most patients will feel sore and tired for the first week after surgery, but you should be able to return to your regular routine in approximately one week.

Breast Revision

At times, breast implants must be removed to address potential complications, such as changes in breast tissue due to childbirth or changes in the implants themselves.

Are you a good candidate for breast revision?

You may be a good candidate for breast revision if:

  • you experience implant deflation.
  • your implant shifts.
  • you experience capsular contracture.
  • you want to change implants.

When you sit down with Dr. Jejurkiar during a consultation, he will ask you about your goals and what you wish to accomplish with the surgery. This information will help him grasp your expectations fully and determine if he can make them a reality.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Breast surgery isn’t just for women. Men who experience gynecomastia (enlarged breasts) may also desire breast surgery. More than half of the male population in the United States is affected in one way or another by enlarged breasts. Gynecomastia can be caused by a range of factors such as a reaction to medications or a hormonal imbalance.

Are you a good candidate for male breast reduction?

Any man who has enlarged breasts, regardless of age, is a good candidate for male breast reduction. That said, the best candidates are those with firm, elastic skin.

The Procedure and Recovery

Gynecomastia surgery can take anywhere from one to three hours. Dr. Jejurikar may employ several techniques to perform the procedure, depending on your goals and what makes you feel comfortable, including liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, and (if necessary) the removal of excess glandular tissue. After surgery, you may experience swelling and bruising for the next few days. As such, you may be asked to wear a compression garment during recovery.

Breast Implants: Saline and Silicone

It’s important to note that when you’re considering breast augmentation or implant surgery, there are two types of breast implants for patients to choose from: silicone gel-filled implants and saline-filled implants.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants involve a silicone rubber implant shell that is inserted behind your chest tissues and/or muscle and then filled with saline (a saltwater solution). For many years, saline breast implants were considered to be an inferior alternative to silicone gel-filled implants. Despite this, they’re still widely used. The vast majority of saline implants are single lumen (only one chamber) and are filled during breast augmentation surgery.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone gel-filled implants are generally the more popular choice for breast implants because they look and feel softer than saline breast implants, so they’re considered by many to be the superior choice. Silicone breast implants come in a range of shapes and sizes and vary in profile, volume, shape, and size.
